Santa Monica Zen Center Membership
As a member of the SMZC Sangha you may participate in all of our regular schedule of activities and additional programs as you see fit.
Interview - When offered you may take advantage of interview with a Senior Priest during periods of Zazen, Zazenkai and Sesshin.
Zazen Instruction - You may always repeat this at any time for free and are encouraged to be involved whenever you invite your friends or family as Guests.
Introduction to Zen Training - You may take or repeat this course at any time at the reduced member rate.
Zazenkai - Zazenkai provides you with the opportunity for deepening your practice through the experience of longer periods of uninterrupted zazen. Held several times a year on a Saturday (see monthly schedule), Zazenkais are from 5 am - 2:30 pm and include an informal breakfast and lunch, either informal or oryoki style. Attending at least one Zazenkai is strongly suggested before entering into a Sesshin.
Sesshin - Sesshin is an intensified period of practice, literally meaning “to unify the mind,” and is the highlight of Zen training. Every aspect of Zen that has been used for thousands of years to awaken you to your true, authentic self is utilized during Sesshin.
Zen Life Intensive Level I - ZLI Level I is an intensive 2-day inquiry into the nature of the human condition, how you keep yourself playing small in a world of possibilities and what actions you will need to take to transcend the grip of mediocrity. As a Member, this course is offered on an invitation basis only.
Fushinsamu - Fushinsamu literally means “a universal invitation (Fushin) to work practice (samu).” Everyone is invited to clean the space within which we all practice. Every Sunday from 7:00 am - 8:00 am is an opportunity to become intimate with nooks and crannies of the Center and be with the Sangha in an informal, fun way.
Service - Service is conducted every Sunday morning at 9:00 am.
Membership Requirements:
A minimum monthly financial responsibility of $50.00 is payable to SMZC at the beginning of every month.
Payments are made through your SMZC Web Account, and are automatically deducted from either a credit or debit card only.
